Latest Tweet Project

This evening I had some creative funtime!  I started with an inexpensive 8 by 10 canvas that I got from "Ollies" - $1.99!!

To start, I used some tissue paper sheet music, not real sure who this is by, and Mod Podged it on.  I added a coat of antique white paint, followed by a touch of  grey purple Master's Touch acrylic.  I added some yellow with  bubble wrap for texture. The birds are wooden ones by Maya Road. The technique that I used on them was one I learned from Lisa Pace this week using Glossy Accents and some glitter from my stash.

The birdcage is Tim Holtz Caged Bird Bigz Die Cut, cut out of free chipboard that comes with the paper packs at the Scrapbook Page.  I spritzed it with gold Perfect Pearls mist by Ranger, this gives it a subtle sheen.  The gems that are dangling are from an old lamp.

I fastened it to the canvas with a flower brad and stitched thru the canvas to pop it out a bit.

I used the same collage technique with a smaller canvas, and added it to give extra dimension.

The letters are Scrabble tiles (a Goodwill find thanks to my youngest daughter).  Then I punched some musical notes from black cardstock with a Fiskars squeeze punch.  These were collaged on and antique white was dabbed on them to tone them down a little.

Glass copper colored microbeads were added to the upper right and lower left hand corners with sticky tape.  I added jute (99 cents a roll at Ollies) around the outside of the canvas to give it a finished look.

I couldn't be more pleased with how this turned out and it was a lot of fun to complete.  Special thanks to Lead Fiskateers Emma and Tania for their Fiskateer Games Challenges this month.  Having a deadline really pushes me to start and finish projects that I might never get around to doing otherwise.  Hoping you can take time to go be crafty today.

My Favorite Love Story...

As many, if not all of you know, I am Fiskateer #6036.  All this month we have had "The Fiskateer Games" in honor of the Olympics.  This is the last week and the theme for this week is "Home Decor".  Emma Jeffery - Lead Fiskateer #7981 asked us to:  "Show me some creative expression by altering a blank canvas (of any size) while also incorporating some Fiskars tools".  This is my creation:

I started with an  11 X 14 canvas from Big Lots.  Then I used assorted letter stickers from my stash.  I painted over the letter stickers with a foam brayer from The Dollar Tree, using Master's Touch acrylics in Grey Purple (it looks blue on here).  Using a paper piercer, I removed the letters carefully.  One of the letters came off on the brayer, so I will need to use some stickier stickers next time.  I used a Fiskars Ultra Shape Express template to cut the heart shape out of some packing cardboard.  Then I painted it in Master's Touch Lemon Yellow acrylic paint.  While the paint was still wet, I rubbed in some ultrafine yellow glitter.  I love the texture the cardboard and nylon netting gave.

After the paint dried, I stapled some glittery white nylon netting onto the heart, wrapped it around and tied it on the front.  Then I stapled some more to the top-back creating a way to hang it.  I loosely modeled this from a creation I saw on Pinterest - by landeeseelandeedo.com.  I was so glad I spent yesterday morning browsing my daughter's, Cordelia, Pinterest boards!   I really like this and I hope you do too.  Hope you take some time to be creative today.

"Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear"

The other day, I headed to the fabric department to get some lace.  I spotted this cute Elvis fabric for $2 a yard and got a yard of it.  The plan was to make a pillow cover or case, for my son, Sean, for his birthday.  Then I spotted 97 cent patterns.  I have haunted Goodwill for several weeks looking for patterns to use in collages, without sucess.  While looking at patterns, I found one for a teddy bear.  Light bulb!!  It said it was easy and I decided this would be a fun gift.

It took 6 hours...  I had to make sure the fabric design was upright instead of going with the grain of the fabric.  The images on the feet were singled out to make an interesting image there, I did the same with the ears.

I added a denim heart for extra interest.

Hoping the next four I make will be easier.  Planning to make one for each of the grandbabies for Christmas.  The stuffing is Poly-fil by Fairfield.  It was a sheer pleasure to work with, so soft and silky.  Previous stuffing materials that I have worked with were rough and lumpy.

I better go put this little guy up, he is worming his way into my heart and I don't want gifting him to be "unBEARable".

Hope you have time to be crafty today.

Little Gifts

I was inspired to create some little gifts this week.  These little memo pads are constructed using 4 1/2 by 3 1/4 inch composition books.  They happened to be on sale 6 for $1 at Walgreens this week (all the better).

The construction was easy and fast.  I used Tombow Fastener Tabs for the closers.

I put a bookmark and a pocket in one.

I put a different type of pocket in  another.

I enjoyed making these so much, I do believe I will get some more to make up some more little gifts...
